Lantana Bako Abdullahi, representing Nigeria, leads the ‘Women for Positive Peacebuilding Initiative’, which mentors and trains women and girls on peace, security and governance.

Lantana has been involved in mediation efforts locally and regionally to reduce violent conflicts, including facilitating mediation between pastoralists and farmers to respond to the incessant violent conflicts in the Middlebelt region. She has served as a women mentor with ‘UN Women’ and supported the formation of the ‘Women Peace and Mediators Network’ in Nigeria.

Lantana is also a member of the Women Mediators Across the Commonwealth network, which aims to increase the participation of women from the Commonwealth in mediation at all levels.

Lantana said:

“I feel overwhelmed with joy for this unexpected recognition from the Commonwealth and it’s a crowning glory to end what has been a turbulent year.”
