Southall Lions Club
1527. Jatinder Kaur
Jatinder Kaur, from Buckinghamshire, has distributed over 5,000 cooked meals to frontline workers and vulnerable people in her community since the start of the pandemic through 'Southall Lions Club'.
This has included sourcing 18 tonnes of food leftover from McDonalds restaurants when they were forced to close, and ensuring surplus food could be redistributed towards those in need. Jatinder has also helped supply toys and books for children in hospitals, and provide additional supplies for hospital workers.
In a personal letter to Jatinder, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said:
“I was so inspired to hear of your work to salvage tonnes of food destined for landfill to feed your community during recent times.
“With your army of volunteers, you have distributed thousands of freshly cooked meals to our heroic frontline workers, and those who are vulnerable.”
Jatinder said:
“As a member of Lions Clubs International I am humbled to receive this honour and with humility accept this award. The award is to be dedicated to all the organisations , businesses and volunteers without whom the services provided would not have been possible.”
