Loving tribute to daughter

596. Bryn Hughes

Bryn Hughes has set up a Memorial Fund in memory of his daughter, Nicola, who was tragically murdered in 2012.

Bryn, from Manchester, established the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund after his police officer daughter, Nicola, was murdered while on routine patrol with her colleague. The fund supports children and young people coping with the loss of a loved one as a result of violent crime. Bryn has raised over £200,000 to date.

In a personal letter to Bryn, Prime Minister Theresa May said:

“By establishing the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund you have shown incredible courage through adversity. Your work is a wonderful tribute to your daughter and her memory will live on through the support being given to so many young people coping with the loss of a loved one”.

Bryn said:

“It gives me great pleasure to receive the Prime Minister’s Point of Light award not only in recognition of the work we have done so far but also in Nicola’s memory and on behalf of her legacy that is the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund. The vital work we are doing and can do for the children and young people left behind after the truly horrendous crime of murder is vital to help secure a better future for them. Our purpose is a simple and clearly defined one: to make sure that the secondary victims of violent crime don’t remain victims. We honour the memories of those robbed of their life by giving the people touched by its loss a better one. In any way we can. Big or small. We can’t prevent meaningless deaths. We can help to prevent meaningless lives.”
