Happy Smiles Training

2064. Haydn Smith

Haydn Smith, from Wigan, is a wheelchair user with cerebral palsy who co-founded ‘Happy Smiles Training’, which has given disability awareness training to over 12,000 people across the North West.

‘Happy Smiles’ initially started as a blog by Haydn and his PA, Alex, written during a long hospital stay for multiple surgeries, when they wanted to encourage their disabled friends to share stories of their experiences. The blog quickly grew and was established as a registered organisation in 2019.  The social enterprise is led by disabled people, holding educational workshops for schools, community groups and businesses, as well as creating employment opportunities for disabled people.  In recognition of their impact, ‘Happy Smiles Training’ was included on the ‘Disability Power 100 List 2022’, whilst Haydn and Alex were invited by HM The King to attend a Coronation Garden Party earlier this year.

Haydn said:

“Really happy to be recognised and for ‘Happy Smiles Training’ to be celebrated! We’re really passionate about being led by disabled people, providing employment opportunities for disabled people and creating social change through our training delivery to schools, community groups and businesses. Thank you so much.”
