Cook4Care
2059. Davina Davie
2060. Maria Corry
Davina Davie and Maria Corry, from Surrey, set up ‘Cook4care’, a charity that helps young carers and their families by providing them with home-cooked meals, made and delivered entirely by a team of volunteers.
Maria and Davina became aware of the struggle that young carers experience when, through their work in schools, they saw how demanding being a carer and student can be. They set up ‘Cook4care’ in 2020 during the pandemic and now deliver over 200 meals a week across Surrey, allowing young carers time to recharge and care for themselves in place of extra hours spent cooking and shopping.
The award for Davina and Maria comes during National Carer’s Week, an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring and highlighting the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families.
Davina and Maria said:
“We are delighted to receive this award in recognition of all the hard work that our team of dedicated volunteers have done, and continue to do, for young carers and their families. Together we make a significant difference to the lives of these young people.”
