Bless a Child Foundation Uganda
Commonwealth Point of Light 66. Brian Walusimbi
Brian Walusimbi, representing Uganda, is a clown who is dedicating his time to supporting children with cancer.
As the Founder and Executive Director of the ‘Bless a Child Foundation’, Brian has set up two specialist care homes to provide treatment and palliative care to children under 12 years old. The homes in Kampala and Gulu provide accommodation, care and support to over 1,600 children and, for many families, Brian’s work is the difference between whether their children can or cannot receive treatment. The Foundation also helps bereaved families, providing counselling and covering funeral and repatriation costs.
Peter West CMG, UK High Commissioner in Uganda, said:
“Brian’s work with ‘Bless a Child Foundation’ brings hope and comfort to children and their families affected by cancer. His efforts have brought much-needed attention to an issue that many families struggle quietly with. It therefore gives me great pleasure to see Brian awarded with the Commonwealth Points of Light Award in recognition of his efforts to ease the lives of so many.”
Brian Walusimbi said:
“I am so thrilled and humbled to receive the Points of Light Award. I could not have achieved this without the support of so many kind and generous people who have stood by us day-in, day-out. I dedicate this award to all the volunteers, staff and partners of ‘Bless a Child Foundation’ who make this work possible. Above all I thank God, who started this journey for me and my family who have continuously walked it with me.”
